Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 Longyearbyen

Board in Longyearbyen after time to explore the former mining town, its parish church and the Svalbard Museum, then sail out into Isfjorden in the evening with a chance of the first minke whale.

Day 2 Kongsfjorden and Ny Alesund

The activity programme opens around Blomstrandhalvoya, with kayaking and hikes on offer, and a call at Ny Alesund, the world’s northernmost settlement, where barnacle geese and Arctic terns breed beneath the old airship mast, before the ship sails on to Krossfjorden.

Day 3 Amsterdamoya and Smeerenburg

Among the islands of the far northwest lie the remains of Amsterdamoya’s seventeenth century whaling station and the blubber ovens of Smeerenburg, with wide panoramas across the Fair Haven islands and plenty of scope for walks and paddles.

Day 4 Raudfjord

This glacier ringed fjord on the north coast holds ringed and bearded seals and thriving seabird cliffs, in country where polar bears hunt the seals, with hikes and kayaking as the ice permits.

Day 5 Liefdefjorden and the Monaco Glacier

Weather allowing, the ship cruises before the five kilometre face of the Monaco Glacier, a favourite kittiwake feeding ground, with an alternative along the west coast near Texas Bar should ice intervene.

Day 6 North Spitsbergen reserve day

A day held in reserve to make the most of the north’s weather and wildlife, whether that means more time in the ice, a longer hike or an extra paddle.

Day 7 Forlandsundet and the west coast

Turning for home, the ship works Forlandsundet between Spitsbergen and Prins Karls Forland, with walruses and seabirds about, or lands at St Johns Fjord or Alkhornet, before reaching Longyearbyen in the evening.

Day 8 Longyearbyen

Disembark at Longyearbyen in the morning, with airport transfers provided. The programme flexes throughout with ice, weather and wildlife under AECO rules, and the expedition leader has the final say.

Activities

    Sea Kayaking

Paddle quiet inlets away from the ship, threading between ice floes. Guided in small groups, it offers an intimate, water-level perspective on the coastline and its wildlife, well suited to reasonably fit guests seeking time on the water.

    Hiking

Explore remote landscapes on foot, with guided hikes available for all ability levels—from relaxed walks to more challenging routes for experienced hikers.

    Photo Workshop

Sharpen your eye alongside an onboard photographer, from composing icebergs to capturing wildlife in fading light. Sessions blend practical fieldwork with deck-side guidance, helping you return home with images that do justice to what you have seen.

    Zodiac Cruising

Aboard a sturdy inflatable, you sit just above the waterline as your guide noses among brash ice and towering bergs. It is the closest encounter with the polar world, seals hauled out nearby, a whale surfacing, the deep quiet broken only by cracking ice.
