Route information

Embark: Nuuk, Greenland

Disembark: St. John’s, Newfoundland

Destinations: West Greenland (Sisimiut and Disko Bay), Baffin Island, the Labrador coast and Torngat Mountains, eastern Newfoundland

Ships: National Geographic Resolution, National Geographic Explorer

Duration: 17 days

Additional Information: The voyage begins with a night in Reykjavik and a charter flight to Nuuk. Recommended group charter flights are not included.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Reykjavik, Iceland

Arrive in Reykjavik, the world's northernmost capital, and transfer to your hotel, with time to explore the harbour city before the journey west. Gather in the evening for dinner and a briefing.

Day 2 Fly to Nuuk, embark

Board a charter flight across the Denmark Strait to Nuuk, the small, colourful capital of Greenland, set among mountains at the head of a great fjord system. Embark your ship and sail out into the Davis Strait.

Days 3 - 5 West Greenland: Sisimiut and Disko Bay

Sail north along the Greenland coast. Call at Sisimiut, a former whaling port and one of the oldest towns in the country, then reach Disko Bay, where the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier calves the great icebergs that drift down the coast. Cruise among the bergs by Zodiac, walk the tundra of Disko Island, and watch for whales in the rich waters.

Days 6 - 10 Baffin Island, Arctic Canada

Cross to Baffin Island and spend several days exploring its coast at the pace the ice allows. Steep fjords cut into the ice cap, glaciers spill to the sea, and quiet coves open onto tundra bright with autumn colour. Watch the water for walrus, seals and whales, and go ashore to hike and to visit ancient cultural sites, the route shaped each day by weather and wildlife.

Days 11 - 14 The Labrador coast and the Torngat Mountains

Turn south down the coast of Labrador, one of the wildest shores in North America. In Torngat Mountains National Park, sheer walls rise straight from the fjords, and Inuit guides share a homeland their people have known for millennia. Cruise the dramatic narrows of Mugford Tickle beneath the Kaumajet Mountains, and call at historic outposts such as Indian Harbour and the restored fishing station of Battle Harbour, once the capital of the Labrador coast.

Days 15 - 16 Eastern Newfoundland

Reach the coast of Newfoundland, a land of sea-cliffs, deep fjords and hidden beaches. Explore ashore and by Zodiac, watching for seabirds and whales, and take in the seafaring culture of the outport communities.

Day 17 St. John's, disembark

Sail into St. John's, the colourful capital of Newfoundland and one of the oldest cities in North America. Disembark after breakfast and transfer for your flight home.
