Discover the Sea Spirit

The Sea Spirit is an all-suite expedition vessel carrying up to 114 guests across Antarctica, South Georgia, Svalbard, and Greenland. Her ice-strengthened hull and Rolls Royce Zero Speed Stabilisers enable safe navigation through narrow Arctic fjords and the ice-laden waters of the Antarctic Peninsula — the stabilisers reducing roll even when the ship is at anchor or adrift, producing a noticeably steadier experience in open seas.

With only 114 passengers, most of the guests can go ashore together for every excursion. Two landings per day are typical, with a fleet of Zodiacs deployed whenever conditions permit. An open bridge policy allows guests to spend time at the helm alongside the navigation team, following the ship’s progress on the expedition chart.

On board, the atmosphere is warm and sociable. The Presentation Lounge hosts nightly recaps and expert lectures; the Club Lounge provides a 24-hour coffee and tea station; and the Library offers an extensive collection of polar books, DVDs, and reference material. A jacuzzi on deck provides a welcome end-of-day retreat after time in the field. Renovated in 2017 and fitted with Rolls Royce retractable fin stabilisers, Sea Spirit offers a comfortable, knowledge-rich expedition experience with genuine small-ship access to some of the world’s most remote and pristine environments.

Sea Spirit is well suited to travellers who want the polar regions to feel personal and engaging, with active days ashore, expert interpretation, and a ship that feels welcoming rather than formal.

    Activities

      Sea Kayaking

Guided by experienced instructors in small groups, sea kayaking brings an intimate, near-silent dimension to polar exploration. Paddle through brash ice, into secluded coves, and alongside wildlife at water level, an encounter no Zodiac can quite replicate. Basic prior kayaking experience is required. All paddling gear, dry suit, and equipment are provided.

      Zodiac Cruising

The Zodiac is the expedition vessel’s constant companion. Nimble inflatable craft carry small groups close to glacier faces, sea ice, and wildlife inaccessible from the ship’s side. Drifting quietly beside a calving ice cliff or circling a floe while penguins porpoise nearby, Zodiac cruising delivers the kind of immediacy that defines expedition-style cruising at its most engaging.

      Polar Plunge

A rite of passage for polar expeditioners everywhere. Brave a brief, bracing leap into icy polar waters from the ship’s deck, cold, invigorating, and a personal marker of having arrived at the far reaches of the earth. Entirely voluntary, but a memory that tends to endure long after the voyage is over.

      Photography Program

On selected voyages, an onboard photography specialist helps guests refine their technique amid some of the world’s most dramatic natural light and landscapes. Sessions cover composition, camera settings, and reading wildlife behaviour, helping travellers return home with images that genuinely convey the scale and atmosphere of the polar environment.

      Presentations

Each evening in the Presentation Lounge, naturalists, glaciologists, historians, and wildlife specialists bring the day’s experiences to life through expert lectures and recaps. Forward briefings set context for what lies ahead. This running programme of knowledge and interpretation is woven through the entire voyage, turning observation into genuine understanding.

      Hiking

Led by experienced naturalists, guided hikes venture inland from landing sites to reveal perspectives unavailable at the shoreline, elevated ridge lines, glacier margins, and seabird nesting grounds. Distances and terrain vary by site and season.

      Camping

Spend a night on the Antarctic continent under an endless polar sky. Guests camp ashore in bivvy bags amid glaciers, silence, and the occasional curious penguin. A profoundly personal experience that deepens the connection to one of the world’s last true wilderness environments.

      Citizen Science & Conservation

Sea Spirit voyages contribute to ongoing scientific research. Guests assist the expedition team in gathering observations such as seabird counts, wildlife sightings, ice and weather conditions that feed into established conservation programmes. A straightforward but meaningful way to give something back to the environments visited, and to return home with a genuine sense of purpose.
